| Whether it is a solo in the spotlight or in a crew painting scenery backstage, the Summer Drama Workshop offers area students enriching theater education experiences they will always remember. Each age group has its own musical production to stage, under the direction of experienced, capable educators who know how to make hard work a whole lot of fun!
This year’s theater theme is fairy tales, even for shows by the oldest teens, who learn about the consequences of characters’ wishes and quests in Stephen Sondheim’s “Into the Woods.” Morning workshop begins June 28; performances are July 30 & 31 at 7 pm.
Tolerance, bullying, inner beauty, and self-image are themes young teens explore whilst presenting the musical version of Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Ugly Duckling” in “Honk! Jr.” Morning workshop begins June 28; performances are July 22 at 11 am & 7 pm & July 23 at 7 pm.
Children working on “Disney’s Cinderella, Kids” learn that dreams really do come true. Morning workshop begins June 28; performance is July 16 at 1 pm.
Through “Aesop’s Fables,” younger children learn numerous lessons of life through timeless moral tales in either or both sessions of Little Theater. Little Theater 1 morning workshop begins July 6; performance is July 16 at 1 pm. Little Theater 2 morning workshop begins July 19; performance is July 30 at 1 pm.
Students entering grades 1-5 can try their hands at writing their own play later on in August in Stage Two Theater. Morning workshop begins August 2; performance is August 13.
Royalties and performance rights to well-written, professional scripts and musical scores are specifically arranged in order to provide unparalleled age-appropriate theatrical experiences. Participants learn award-winning songs, charming roles, clever dances, and all the while make new friends in a collaborative, supportive environment. Drama workshops teach creative problem-solving, discipline, tolerance, and movement skills during daily rehearsals and your child can experience a start to finish theatrical production. Theater involvement produces positive results with both the shy and the less inhibited, ‘dramatic’ child.
Spaces fill quickly, so register soon so your child will not miss out on an experience they will not forget. By enrolling a kid in Summer Drama Workshop you bestow a lifelong gift on them: an appreciation of the performing arts. Registration information is available here.
As a testament to the 22 years the Arts Alliance has been successfully offering this program, a theatrical outlet for our community’s performance-loving adults was in demand and therefore formed; so, in keeping with the theme of fairy tales, the River’s Edge Players presents “Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs,” on October 16th and 17th at Hudson High School Auditorium.
